Lessons on the Beach by Joni Sturgill

Mindful, I walked...

Fine white sand.
Blue green water.
Foamy waves.

As I entered,
the waves crashed over me, each teaching a different lesson.

The first was a stinging slap of a wake up call,
catching me off guard,
nearly knocking me off balance.

The second wave came and I knew I would be alright.

And each one after that I settled, I softened, I accepted.

The waves didn’t change. I changed. I let go.

Floating, facing the warm, bright sun,
I surrendered.

Sometimes life will surprise me, knock me off balance like that first wave.
If I accept whatever comes, I’ll be able to rest peacefully in the crashing, even if it stings.
