AFRICA

The Wisdom of the Wild: A Mindfulness, Yoga, and Nature Retreat in Botswana.

There are places that change our perspective simply by being there. The Wisdom of the Wild is an immersive retreat into the landscapes, wildlife, and cultures of southern Africa, created as an opportunity to step away from the noise of everyday life, reconnect with nature, and rediscover a deeper sense of wonder, presence, and perspective.

Our journey begins at Victoria Falls, known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya, “The Smoke That Thunders.” One of the world's great natural wonders, the falls have also held cultural and spiritual significance for local communities for centuries. From there, we will travel toward Botswana, including a boat journey on the Chobe River, where elephants, hippos, and abundant birdlife gather along the riverbanks.

We then settle into Munga Plains, a private retreat center near Chobe National Park, surrounded by the African savannah. We'll stay in comfortable ensuite glamping tents and practice in an open-air yoga shala overlooking the plains, intentionally designed to deepen connection with the natural world.

Our days will weave together mindfulness, gentle yoga, reflection, safari adventures, cultural experiences, and spacious time to simply absorb where we are. We may explore Chobe National Park on game drives, encounter elephants and other wildlife, gather around the fire beneath the African sky, and learn from people whose traditions and relationship with this land extend across generations. Munga Plains offers opportunities for village visits and cultural experiences such as traditional drumming and dance, cooking, and basket weaving with local women.

But this retreat is about more than seeing Africa. It is an invitation to let the wild teach us something.

What happens when we slow down enough to notice again? What can nature teach us about change, resilience, instinct, interconnection, and our place within something larger than ourselves? Through practices and conversations drawing from mindfulness, psychology, yoga philosophy, ancient wisdom traditions, and our direct experience of the natural world, we'll explore these questions together.

There will also be room for what cannot be scheduled: watching the sun rise over the savannah, listening to the sounds of the bush at night, meaningful conversation, solitude, curiosity, laughter, and the sense of wonder that emerges when we encounter a world very different from our own.

The Wisdom of the Wild is part retreat, part adventure, and part journey of discovery. Come to experience Africa. Leave with a different way of seeing yourself, your life, and the world around you.
