Approximately 70% of adults in the U.S. (223 million people) have experienced some type of traumatic event at least once in their lives. Up to 20% of these people (approx. 44 million) go on to develop PTSD. Various emotional, physical and psychological side effects accompany experiences of trauma and PTSD. The practices of yoga and mindfulness can help people through their coping and recovery in many ways, if taught with awareness and sensitivity. In this workshop, you, as a yoga teacher, will learn best practices to teach those struggling with PTSD and trauma recovery, as well as how to make your classes safe and predictable so as to support this population. Joni Sturgill holds a master of science in counseling psychology and is an 500 hour ERYT with training in yoga for trauma recovery.
